2025 National Weanling Sale catalogue is now online

The 82-lot catalogue for NZB Standardbred’s 2025 National Weanling Sale is now live and available to view on www.nzbstandardbred.co.nz.

Set to take place at the Karaka Sales Centre on Thursday 26 June from 2.30pm, a 79-lot boutique weanling session will be complimented by three supplementary yearling entries.

The Sale will feature a selection of the very best potential pinhook, racing and breeding stock on offer, giving buyers the opportunity to source quality weanlings at value prices.

From small catalogues, graduates have impressed on the racetrack with the likes of Group One winners Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside), Christopher Dance (NZ) (Sweet Lou) and Fugitive (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) sourced from this sale.

The catalogue is made up of the progeny of 22 stallions, including heavyweights such as Always B Miki, American Ideal, Art Major, Bettor’s Delight, Downbytheseaside, Majestic Son and Sweet Lou, to emerging sires like Captain Crunch, What the Hill and Vincent, plus first season sires King of The North, El Titan, Perfect Sting and more.

Astute trainers, pinhookers and end users will have the opportunity to purchase quality offspring from more than 20 Group-producing mares, with siblings to the likes of Alta Orlando, American Dealer, Burnaholeinmypocket, Sinbad, Jolimont, Alta Meteor and Flying Even Better also on offer.

“We have a quality catalogue of weanlings put together from some of the best families in Australasia by top-flight sires,” commented NZB Standardbred Manager Cam Bray.

“This Sale has become a proven source for stakes winners. Graduates have already claimed 30 stakes wins across Australasia in the current five seasons.”

In an exciting move, the National Standardbred Weanling Sale will be held on the same date as the National Weanling Sale for thoroughbreds at Karaka. The joint sale date will see the thoroughbred session get underway at 10am, with the standardbred weanlings selling from 2.30pm.

“With the increasing cross-coding between the harness and galloping code, it seemed an obvious fit,” added Bray.

This year’s edition of the Sale will see strong support from renowned northern vendors, as well as southern vendors Dancingonmoonlight and Macca Lodge returning to the Karaka sales complex.

Invercargill-based Macca Lodge first ventured north in 2023 to sell a dozen weanlings, that have since relished on the track. Stud Principal Brent McIntyre is looking forward to their return to Karaka, with 12 weanlings on offer.

“Our first draft of weanlings are hitting the track, with multiple winners already at two."

“We’ve got a mix of weanlings from inform stallions and first-year sires. With the Next Gen Series underway, it is fitting to offer the first crop by The Perfect Sting, King of the North, and El Titan at Karaka and get them into the right stables.”

Three quality supplementary yearlings are represented in the catalogue and will be offered following the weanling session.

All weanlings purchased at the 2025 National Weanling Sale at Karaka are eligible to be entered for NZB Standardbred’s lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. The Series consists of principal two-year-old and three-year-old races for colts and geldings, fillies and trotters individually, where NZB Standardbred graduates can contest for their share in a one-million-dollar prize pool.
