Bet N Win Bounces Back With Rowe Cup Triumph

5 May 2025

Bet N Win (NZ) (What The Hill) scored the biggest scalp of his career when victorious in the Group One Rowe Cup (3200m) at Alexandra Park last Friday night.

Bet N Win (NZ) fends off Mr Love (NZ) to secure the Group One Rowe Cup

The David and Stacey White-trained five-year-old was withdrawn from the Group One ANZAC Cup (2200m) a week prior after contracting a virus, but rebounded in emphatic fashion in Friday’s two-mile feature.

From his ace draw, Bet N Win took an early trail for driver Bob Butt behind pacemaker Mighty Logan, before finding themselves three back on the fence when Australian raider Not As Promised attacked for the lead.

They found themselves in the trail once more with 400m to go when a tiring Not As Promised weakened, and Butt guided his charge up the passing lane where Bet N Win was able to hold out the challenge of Mr Love (NZ) (Love You) to win by a nose.

“It worked out great for us and it was a super training performance with everything that happened with him,” Butt said.

“He drew ideally and full credit to the horse, he was running out of puff 150m from home, but when Mr Love came, he pinned his ears back and tried his guts out.”

Bet N Win was bred by Breckon Farms and was offered through their 2021 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft in Auckland where he was purchased by David White for $32,500.

He has been a dominant force over the last two seasons for White and his wife and training partner Stacey, winning nine of his 12 starts on both sides of the Tasman, including the Group One New Zealand Trotting Champs (2600m) and Rowe Cup.

Bet N Win is out of unraced Pegasus Spur mare Factor The Odds, who is out of dual Group Two winner and Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of her Year Fear Factor, who is also the dam of Group One winner Stress Factor and Group One performer Prince Fearless.
