Bet N Win (NZ) Primed for Group One Dominion Tilt
31 October 2024
Bet N Win (NZ) (What The Hill) has the Group One Dominion (3200m) right in his sights following his domination of the $40,000 Group Three What The Hill Ashburton Trotters Sprint (1700m).
The NZB Standardbred graduate led throughout and never looked in danger of defeat as he extended his winning run for trainers David and Stacey White and driver Bob Butt on Monday.
As Bet N Win strode away from his rivals, Butt never even had to ask the horse for a serious effort or pull his removable hood.
“The hood’s still on, so that’s a good sign heading into the second Tuesday in November,” Stacey White said.
The Group One Dominion on New Zealand Cup Day is Bet N Win’s next target and his Ashburton victory showed what a force he will be in the iconic feature.
The victory also extended the brilliant trotter’s winning run to seven races in a row and remarkably, five of those have come at group or listed level.
With their horse clearly in the form of his life, the Whites don’t plan to give their stable star another pubic appearance before the $400,000 Dominion.
“We will play it pretty quiet now, we will tick over at home and if we need to we will take him for an outing somewhere,” Stacey White said.
“But we will skip Kaikoura and skip the Cup Trials, it will just be a private outing somewhere if he does go anywhere.”
Bet N Win was purchased for $32,500 by David White when he was offered among the Breckon Farms draft at the 2021 National Yearling Sale at Auckland.
The outstanding trotter is raced by a big group of owners who can now look forward to starting New Zealand’s most in-form trotter in arguably New Zealand’s biggest trotting race.
“We are very lucky with the owners and supporters that we have got, we are just trying to enjoy it,” Stacey White said.
“We just take it day by day because we know horses can be up and down but we are just trying to enjoy the ride.”
“Everyone is telling us to enjoy the moment because it goes by so quick.”
Bet N Win’s victory in the Group Three What The Hill Ashburton Trotters Sprint was highly appropriate for a number of reasons.
The feature sprint was sponsored by the trotter’s sire What The Hill (USA).
What The Hill stands at Woodlands Stud, where Stacey White works as sales, marketing and racing manager.
