Bet N Win (NZ) Tenacious In Group One Triumph
18 March 2025
Bet N Win (NZ) (What The Hill) burnt at both ends of the $100,000 Fred Shaw Memorial New Zealand Trotting Championship (2600m) victory, leaving his rivals with no excuses.
The NZB Standardbred graduate worked hard to find the lead in the Addington feature before staving off his challengers in an outstanding display for trainers David and Stacey White and driver Bob Butt.
After producing such an outstanding victory, the brilliant trotter left his connections beaming with pride.
“He really, really dug in and we are so proud of him,” David White said.
“Things looked to work out in our favour with the barrier draws, but he had to do a lot more work than we thought he might’ve.”
David White admitted he had slight concerns seeing his horse’s main rival Muscle Mountain (NZ) (Muscle Hill) poised after enjoying a sweet trip in the one-one throughout.
While he got close, Bet N Win never looked like being denied in the homestraight.
“I still had faith in the horse, I know how tough he is and how much work he can do,” White said.
“The cruising speed he has got makes it a lot harder for the ones chasing him than it is for him to do it.”
“In saying that, when you have a horse like Muscle Mountain sitting in the one-one, it did make me a little bit nervous having him that close.”
Bet N Win is raced by the Odds On Syndicate, Peter Baken, Richard Cole, PI & GJ Kennard Bloodstock Ltd, the Breckon Racing Syndicate, Marlene White, Carl Markham, Andrew Di Iorio, Polly Marriott and the estate of the late Wayne Ramsay.
The trotter was secured by David White for $35,000 when he was offered among the Breckon Farms draft at the 2021 National Yearling Sale in Auckland.
Bet N Win has a slot to start in the upcoming $600,000 TAB Trot at Cambridge on April 4.
The White Stable plan to give Bet N Win a lead-up run in the Group Two Waikato Trotters Flying Mile (1609m) on March 28.
