Bronson (NZ) Speeds To Impressive Listed Win
17 September 2024
Bronson (NZ) (Vincent) swept past his rivals in a dominant victory in the $50,000 Listed Woodlands Sires Stakes Harness 7000 (1980m) at Addington on Friday night.
The NZB Standardbred graduate gathered up his opposition in an instant on the home turn before running to a career-best win for trainer-driver Bob Butt.
Bronson has been brilliantly consistent throughout his short career, showing both speed and stamina in his strong of strong performances.
It was the three-year-old’s turn of foot that was the key to his Listed win on Friday night, with Butt unleashing Bronson’s winning run before the home turn.
The pacer got to his rivals quickly before rallying strongly to break through for his first black-type victory.
Purchased by Jean Feiss for $80,000 from Gael Murray’s draft at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.
Feiss raced the pacer from the Mark and Nathan Purdon stable before the horse was transferred to Bob Butt’s barn.
Butt also took over ownership of the horse with Canterbury commentator Matt Cross, who helps out at his Woodend Beach stable.
Cross held his composure exceptionally well, producing a great race call while enjoying the thrill of seeing his horse winning a $50,000 feature.
When Butt first offered the commentator a share in a horse he wasn’t imagining it would be a classy customer such as Bronson.
But it would be the start of what has already been a wonderful ride.
“When Bob first told me I thought it would be some rating 40 horse, not a horse who was close up in good juvenile races last season,” Cross said.
“When he had his issues last season Jean decided he wasn’t the sort of horse she would go on with so Bob was gifted him and I am stoked to be part of it.”
With plenty of spring opportunities ahead, Cross could next find himself in the ownership of a Group One starter, if Bronson’s win is anything to go by.
