Cantfindabettorman (NZ) Adds Group Three Championship to CV

7 November 2024

Cantfindabettorman (NZ) (Sweet Lou) took his career earnings past $400,000 with his dominant victory in the A$50,000 Four & Five-Year-old Championship (2240m) at Melton on Friday night.

Champion reinsman Chris Alford drove the NZB Standardbred graduate like he was the best horse in the race and Cantfindabettorman proved he was exactly that with his sizzling performance.

The five-year-old stopped the clock in a brilliant 1:52:9 time to continue his strong form since shifting to Victoria and joining the stable of Isabel Walsh.

Though Cantfindabettorman had set a strong tempo in front, he still packed plenty of punch at the finish.
“Things worked out well, he had a good run in the first 200m and once the speed slackened and I took him to the lead he maintained a good tempo,” Alford said.

“He could have been in a bit of bother but to his credit he held on well.”
“Plans are a bit in the air, we could keep him for the country cups or the owners may wish to set him for the Interdominion.”
“But whatever he does he’ll acquit himself well.”.

Cantfindabettorman was purchased for $41,000 by Graeme Anderson at the 2020 National Yearling Sale at Karaka when he was offered by breeder-vendors Woodlands Stud.

The brilliant pacer has banked almost ten-times his purchase price for Anderson and his co-owners Diane Rielly, Stephen Pulley, Tony Gow, Ray Chalkin and Dave McHugh.

Cantfindabettorman competed with merit in Group One company at the recent Queensland Constellations carnival before his owners sent him south to join Walsh’s stable.

And the move is clearly paying dividends, with the pacer winning two of his three starts leading into his feature win at Melton on Friday night.
