Cyclone Jordy Unleashes In Perth

5 May 2025

Cyclone Jordy’s (NZ) (Art Major) golden run in Australia continued at Gloucester Park last Friday when taking out the Group Three Caduceus Club Classic (2130m).

Cyclone Jordy (NZ)

The Gary Hall Snr-trained three-year-old has been unbeaten across the Tasman, with seven prior wins to his credit, including the Group One Golden Slipper (2130m) as a juvenile, and punters duly backed him into $1.06 favouritism.

From his outside draw on the front row, Cyclone Jordy was pinged off the gates by driver Gary Hall Jnr to take up an early front-running role. They were left untroubled up front, dictating proceedings throughout, and the son of Art Major was able to run away to a comfortable victory, leading home a stable and Kiwi-bred quinella, with Scooter B (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) second.

Cyclone Jordy is out of Group One performer Cyclone Kate, who won 21 races, including the Group Two Sibelia Stakes (1609m), Group Two Carnival Stakes (1609m), Group Three Frith Stakes (1609m), Group Three Adore Me Stakes (1609m), Group Three Teeny Teeny Stakes (1609m), and Group Three Australasian Breeders’ Crown Mares FFA (1650m). She also placed at elite-level on two occasions, including the Group One Australasian Breeders’ Crown 2YO Fillies Final (2240m) and Gr.1 Queen Of The Pacific (2760m).

Cyclone Kate has had six live foals to date, and is currently in-foal to Champion sire Bettor’s Delight, and is proving just as effective as a broodmare.

From four progeny of racing age, she has left multiple Group Three performer Cyclone Charlotte (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight), two-win mare Cyclone Bella (NZ) (Art Major), Cyclone Jordy, and two-year-old Cyclone Rebel (NZ) (Betttor’s Delight), who has already qualified for trainer Tate Hopkins.

Cyclone Jordy was offered through Hollis & Robertson Equine Services’ 2023 NZB Standardbred National Yearling Sale draft at Karaka where he was purchased by Frank Cooney for $70,000.

He had five starts in New Zealand for trainer Tate Hopkins for three wins, including the Group One Young Guns Cardigan Bay Stakes (1700m) in the hands of David Butcher.

Cyclone Jordy has now won 12 of his 14 career starts, and earned more than A$275,000 in prizemoney.
