Entries Open for 2025 Weanling Sale

Off the back of a record yearling sale, entries for NZB Standardbred’s 2025 National Weanling Sale are now open, with the Sale set to be held at the Karaka Sales Centre. 

In an exciting move, the date for the NZB National Weanling Sale (thoroughbred) and NZB Standardbred National Weanling Sale (standardbred) has been finalised, with both weanling sessions selling on Thursday 26 June 2025 at Karaka.

The joint sale date will see the thoroughbred session get underway in the morning, with the standardbred weanlings selling later that afternoon.

Featuring a selection of the very best potential pinhook, racing and breeding stock on offer, the popular weanling session will again be complimented by a select yearling session. 

The Sale itself is headlined by graduates such as Aardiebytheseaside, Christopher Dance, Kiss, My Ultimate Chevron and Justcallmemiki, with many buyers taking note of the genuine racing prospects this Sale offers.

Last year's weanling session results amassed over $900,000 for a small 106 lot catalogue, with a solid clearance rate of 86%. The active domestic buying bench was complimented by internationals from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and China to name a few that target this Sale every year.

“There appears to be a lot more synergy between the two codes at the moment. Both industries are in great shape, and the positivity from stakes increases and new initiatives across both codes is encouraging,” commented NZB Director of Operations James Jennings. 

“We are also seeing some thoroughbred players getting involved in the standardbred game as seen at the recent yearling sale.”

“Having both sales on the day should create a bigger crowd, a better atmosphere and hopefully some interest from both codes in the weanlings on offer."

Adding further appeal to the bloodstock that will be on offer, all weanlings purchased at the Sale are eligible to be nominated for the lucrative Harness Million Sales Race Series. All weanlings offered will also have a 30 day extension to the New Zealand Sires Stakes program with the payment date being 31 July 2025.
