Bet N Win (NZ) (What The Hill) announced his open class arrival in brilliant style when winning the $40,000 Group Three Dancinginthedark M Canterbury Park Trotting Cup (2600m) at Addington on Friday night.

The outstanding trotter returned to racing on the perfect note when beating more experienced top level campaigners for trainers David and Stacey White and driver Bob Butt.

Bet N Win (NZ) had one trial ahead of his return, producing a stunning trial win over one of Australasia’s best pacers in Don’t Stop Dreaming (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight).

The trotter simply had to run up to that form to win, and once he found the front he did exactly that.

“He likes setting his own terms, he is a tough bugger and he has speed too,” Butt said.

“He has the all-around game.”

Bet N Win was set to take Australia by storm over the winter before his Queensland campaign was cut short by a hoof issue.

Butt credited the White stable for their work to get their trotting star back to win in top-class company following that setback.

“David and Stacey have done an unreal job with getting him fit,” Butt said.

“I think although his trip to Aussie didn’t go to plan, it made the horse.”

“He has come back a lot stronger.”

With just two public appearances so far this spring, Bet N Win has plenty of race fitness to gain as a plethora of feature trotting races approach.

Bet N Win was purchased for $32,500 by David White from Breckon Farms 2021 draft at Karaka.

The horse’s new rivals in open class should only expect him to be harder to beat every time he hits the track.

“I would say there would be a heap of improvement in him, he has only had the one trial,” Butt said.

While most harness racing fans expected Bet N Win to step up to open company with ease given his brilliant prior form, it was pleasing for his camp that he was able to confirm it with a dominant display.

“We have always thought he would make the grade but you never know until you go against them and take the next step up,” Butt said.

“But he is such a pro racehorse, it is a massive help.”

“It is onwards and upwards hopefully.”

Bet N Win was purchased for $32,500 by David White when he was offered among the Breckon Farms draft at the 2021 National Yearling Sale at Auckland.

The classy trotter is raced by a big group of owners who have plenty more to look forward to this spring.
