2 January 2025

The NZB Standardbred graduate was last on the home turn with a seemingly impossible task in front of her in the feature sprint.

But with a withering burst of speed, the four-year-old sped past her rivals to add another black-type victory to her already impressive record.

In the process, the classy mare handed trainers Dylan and Jo Ferguson the biggest win of the training partnership.

The husband and wife duo joined forces last year, with both already having tasted good success in their own capacities.

Treacherous Gall’s victory was an all-family affair with Dylan’s father Peter Ferguson producing a perfectly timed drive with the mare.

Though the champion reinsman admitted he thought the post may arrive too soon for Treacherous Gall.

“I was a bit concerned halfway down, I thought I am going to run second,” Ferguson told Track Chat NZ.
“But I found in all her races she has hit the line really, really strongly.”
“I probably should have got going a bit sooner, but today she really found the last 20-30m.”
“She really wanted it, it was great.”

Treacherous Gall has been an outstanding performer throughout her racing career for owners Dave Kennedy and Cleland Murdoch after she was offered at the 2021 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch among the Beaudiene Breeding draft.

The mare won the Group Three Caduceus Club Of Southland Fillies Classic (2200m) as a two-year-old before going on to take out the Group Two Southland Oaks (2700m) as a three-year-old.

Since joining the Ferguson stable, Treacherous Gall has produced top-four finishes in stakes company in each of her starts, including a third placing in the Group One Queen Of Hearts (2200m) at Alexandra Park.

Beaudiene Breeding will again offer a stellar draft at the 2025 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch on February 18.

Among the breeder-vendor’s line up is Lot 154 – a colt from the family of Treacherous Gall.

By Stay Hungry (USA), the yearling is from a half-sister to the dam of Treacherous Gall in Louisa Galleon (NZ) (Sweet Lou).
