Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) Beats Boys To Remain Unbeaten in Aus
26 August 2024
Aardiebytheseaside (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) continued her stunning unbeaten run in Western Australia with her dominant win in the A$50,000 August Cup (2536m) at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
The brilliant NZB Standardbred graduate extended her perfect record to five-from-five when leading throughout to score for trainers Greg and Skye Bond and driver Deni Roberts.
Aardiebytheseaside was secured by Mike Tanev’s Razer Ridge Farm for just $1500 when she was offered at the 2020 All Age Sale by breeder-vendors Woodlands Stud.
After stamping herself as the most exciting mare in Perth, the four-year-old has now taken to beating the boys.
After drawing barrier 1, Roberts stoked up Aardiebytheseaside who held the lead after an early attack for the lead.
For a few seconds, the mare looked a chance of being crossed and snookered on the inner.
That was about the extent of Aardiebytheseaside’s victory looking in doubt as she held the lead and dominated Friday night’s Group Three event.
The NZB Standardbred graduate even had the luxury of cruising to the line with victory well in hand.
“She still got halfway down the straight and went to knock off,” Roberts said.
“I think she honestly just wants some company, something outside her.”
While her record in Australia is perfect, the four-year-old only has one slight work-on as she shoots for six-from-six.
“She was still probably a little bit too keen for my liking, but hopefully going up in grade I can hopefully allow her to roll [fast] quarters and come back to me,” Roberts said.
Aardiebytheseaside scored in an impressive 1.58 mile rate for the 2536m staying trip.
The victory took the New Zealand bred mare’s record in Australia to five starts for five wins and A$114,840 in earnings, with three of those wins coming at Group level.
