Chase A Dream (NZ) Bursts Back To Best Form

Two telling reminders were delivered when Chase A Dream (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) ran to a track-record-breaking victory in the $57,000 Group Two Garrards Waikato Pacers Flying Mile (1609m) on Friday night.

The multiple Group One winner burst into contention for the $1,000,000 The Race by Betcha (2200m) with his dominant victory for trainers Mark and Nathan Purdon.

Chase A Dream had produced three efforts below his brilliant capabilities leading into the Cambridge feature.

But the NZB Standardbred graduate left no doubt about his outstanding class when setting a new Cambridge mile record of 1-51.4.

And in the process, the four-year-old showed the incredible ability of the Purdon stable to peak their horses to top-level assignments.

“I only lined him up because I couldn’t fault him,” said Mark Purdon.

“The way he trained and the way he was eating, just his whole demeanour.”
“He seemed very well, tonight he was on his game and put his best foot forward.”

Chase A Dream will now take up the Purdon Racing slot in Friday night’s $1,000,000 The Race by Betcha.

While the pacer clearly had the inside running to secure a start in New Zealand’s richest race, he had to stand up in the Waikato Pacers Flying Mile.

“It was do or die tonight,” Purdon said.

Chase A Dream was offered by Studholme Bloodstock at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.

The winner of more than $500,000 in stakes headed an NZB Standardbred domination of Friday night’s feature.

Merlin (NZ) (Art Major) charged home from off the pace to run second in an excellent warm-up for his attempt to defend his win in last year’s The Race by Betcha.

Pinseeker (NZ) (Downbytheseaside) worked hard on a hot tempo before fighting on strongly to run third, while Rakero Rocket (NZ) (Rock N Roll Heaven) set that fast speed in the lead and also fought hard to run fourth in his final outing before Friday night’s slot race.

Sooner The Bettor (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) and Mo’unga (NZ) (Bettor’s Delight) were next across the line.
