The race may not have gone to plan but the result did when Kyvalley Hotspur (NZ) (Muscle Hill) took out the $35,500 Group Three Majestic Horse Floats Greenlane Cup (2700m) at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

The NZB Standardbred graduate held out the late finish of millionaire trotter Oscar Bonavena (NZ) (Majestic Son) in a strong staying performance for trainer Michelle Wallis and Bernie Hackett and driver Crystal Hackett.

Crystal Hackett had plans to move her classy seven-year-old into Friday night’s feature but those plans went out the window when the pair were pushed three wide with a lap to go.

Though Kyvalley Hotspur worked hard in the final 1000m, it wasn’t enough to stop him from running to a gritty victory.

“I didn’t intend to be three-wide that’s for sure,” Hackett said.

“But he felt super when he mooched up parked when he won a couple of starts ago.”

“I think it makes him feel big and brave and I wanted to do that tonight, but unfortunately I got pushed out a bit earlier than I thought I would.”

“He had to do a lot of work and credit to him, he had to tow a flat tyre the whole way as well.”

Kyvalley Hotspur was purchased by Jim Connelly under his KPC Racing banner for $110,00, when she was offered by breeder-vendors Breckon Farms at the 2019 National Yearling Sale at Karaka. She is just shy of $300,000 in stakes earnings.

With a pedigree to burn, the daughter of Love Ya Doosie (NZ)  is also a full sister to mulitple group winner Kvalley Chief and half sister to Group One winner Lovemeto (NZ) (WhatTheHill).

The trotter campaigned in Australia with outstanding success until recently.

With the Group One Victoria Trotting Derby (2690m), three Listed victories and ten more wins to her name, Kyvalley Hotspur headed back across the Tasman to join the Wallis and Hackett stable.

“We are very, very lucky to have a horse like him come into the stable, he’s got great credentials,” Hackett said.

Kyvalley Hotspur scored in a time of 3-24.9, the second-fastest winning time in the rich history of the Greenlane Cup.
